Welcome to the Health and
Physical Education Department
The South
Kingstown High School's Physical Education department provides an environment
where each student will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to
understand the relationship of physical well being to long-term health.
Learner's individual needs are satisfied through all forms for physical
activity. Students learn to explore, discover and solve problems through
movement and establish relationships between physical activity, body function
and structure, and the mental aspects of judging time, distance and spatial
relationships. Physical education provides a unique setting for sharing ideas,
relieving stress, learning cooperatively, and enjoying a wide variety of
activities. Through physical education, students will learn to develop respect,
responsibility and citizenship in a diverse society.
The
Health Department’s goal is to develop lifelong skills that will enable our
students to establish healthy adult lifestyles characterized by making sound
decisions concerning health and wellness.
In Physical
Education, students are provided with a well-rounded curriculum with a plethora
of activities that include cardiovascular fitness, eye/hand coordination,
problem solving, and lifetime sports. Through both health and physical
education, we feel we are giving students the tools to continue a healthy and
fit lifestyle.
