Engineering Graphics I






Course Objectives

o       Develop an understanding of the principles of Geometric Construction
o       Develop an understanding of the principles of Orthographic Projection
o       Develop visualization skills with regard to points, lines, planes and surfaces in 2 and 3 dimensions
o       Develop an understanding of the principles of Successive Revolution
o       Develop an understanding of the principles of Auxiliary views both primary and secondary
o       Develop an understanding of the principles used in Development and Intersection problems






Performance Indicators

The student will:

o       Develop the ability to apply this learning to the task of problem solving
o       Develop the ability to problem solve using these principles and rules
o       Apply this ability to problem solve
o       Solve true length, point view, edge view, and true size and shape problems
o       Use methods of Auxiliary views to solve point view, edge view, true length and true size and shape problems
o       Produce 3d models from fold out diagrams for truncated cone and pyramids plus oblique cone, and intersection problems which involve cylinders, cones, and rectangles

Student Activities

o       Exercises which utilize geometric constructions
o       Orthographic projection projects
o       Problems which utilize foam models to improve visualization ability
o       Problem Solving utilizing these rules and principles
o       Point view, Edge view, True length, and True size and shape problems using Successive Revolution methods
o       True length, Point view, Edge view, and True size and shape problems using the Auxiliary view method
o       Applying the principles of Developments and Intersections to problems which require either a fold-out diagram or developed sections
o       Problems include truncated cone, truncated pyramid, oblique cone and intersection problems that involve cylinders, cones, and rectangles
