- Refreshments for the Portfolio Day were well received. Thank you Donna.
- Principle’s Report:
- Portfolio Day was a success; more parents attended this year.
- Donna spoke to the staff regarding the role of the PTG
- Pulse Dance for Friday is postponed
- There is a basketball game scheduled for that day new date March 5th
- All but 4-5 advisories had discussions regarding new guidelines on behavior during dances – tomorrow will finish discussions in all the advisories
- NECAP scores became public today
- SK scores essentially remain the same
- Big jump last year maintained
- Steady increase in scores of kids with free and reduced lunch continues
- Kids with IEPs continue to have low math scores
- Student with 2 on NECAP - beginning with sophomore class – is considered enough to graduate but does not meet the standard
- Students with a 1 on the NECAP – beginning with the sophomore class – will need to demonstrate in another way that they have proficiency. Also there is an option as a senior to retake the test in the fall
- Alternative courses will most likely be considered in the future to provide opportunities for the kids to demonstrate proficiency in other ways
- Mrs. Colao’s social studies class painted the hallway as a community project
- Ann Hathaway and Ron Matteson are meeting with Mr. McCarthy to look at Extreme Makeover – a school wide improvement day- to make it more of a community project.
- Asst Superintendant would like to make this a district wide day
- Post graduation Event report from Chris:
- Colleen Burns, events coordinator at the Ryan Center, will meet this week with representative from SK to discuss options for post graduation events at the Center
- $967 previous balance of funds; payment $200 for luncheon other payments current balance $618
- PBruins Hockey Opportunity
- PTG would have to distribute free tickets to SK high school – decision deferred
- CARES SPELLING BEE February 27th 6pm at the elks club (Bob Hicks will be the MC; Kristen Stringfellow, & Mary Kelly will judge)
- 6th annual spelling bee
- Traditionally CARES asks each PTG to support a school team – we will support a team
- $150 pays for four people on the team
- High school won last year
- 3 out of the 4 from last year will do it again
- Melissa is willing to be a member
- Athletic issues – concerns about the scheduling of athletic events during exam week discussed
- Due to the limited number of pools, rinks and other indoor sports which hinders scheduling
- Terry is aware and is trying to keep this in mind in October when the year schedule of games is planned
- Fundraising – initially wanted to avoid fundraising but now find we need funds to support our needs
- South county golf drop in the summer- 2010 South County golf Ball Drop would like to designate all the South Kingstown PTO/PTG
- Kick off meeting 2/27 @ 9:30 in the morning at the SK Chamber of Commerce
- We would get $1.50-$2.00 per ball sold
- Prom Dress Swap as a possible fundraiser - ? make it a swap/sale – maybe expand to shoes
- There is a used clothing sale at Wheeler school is done annually and they make a lot of money. When is it? It would be worth seeing how it goes
- Raffle tickets for a certain parking spot for the year – could sell the tickets for drivers. The spot would be good for the year.
- Cook book – Jane will compile recipes from Teacher Luncheon. Libby will get the e-mails to Jane
