Sculpture
Sculpture introduces students to three-dimensional thinking and creating, employing both additive and subtractive sculptural techniques. A variety of media will be introduced, including clay, plaster, assorted boards, mixed media, and found
materials. Studio work will develop and reinforce understandings of the elements and principles of art and design. Studio projects will be tied to discussion of art historical topics and/or uses of art in modern societies. Students will create, critique, evaluate, and appreciate works of art. Students will explore their own aesthetic views. Art history will be infused throughout the course. Creativity, craftsmanship, personal effort, critical thinking, and sketchbooks are all included in the grading process. In order to succeed in this class, students must meet the criteria given for each assignment, be prepared to question and critique their own work as well as the works of other artists, and approach each art project with an open mind and positive attitude.
