GENERAL INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS
STUDENT SCHEDULES Included with this mailing is a copy of your 2011-2012 academic year schedule. All students need to review the 2011-2012 South Kingstown High School Program of Studies if there are questions regarding adjustments to your schedule. See your counselor ASAP if you are missing a necessary class (like Health or Physical education) or have a schedule with less than the required seven (7) credits. Schedule changes will not be made unless there is an error or a change is necessary due to the successful completion of summer classes. Discussion with your school counselor and written permission from a parent or guardian is necessary for any REQUIRED schedule changes. School counselors
will be available to meet and/or speak with students and parents August 23 – 26. Please call 360-1004 to make an appointment.

ALL STUDENTS ARE REMINDED TO BRING THEIR SCHEDULE TO SCHOOL ON THE FIRST DAY OF
SCHOOL – TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2011. STUDENTS WILL RECEIVE A COPY OF THEIR SKHS STUDENT PLANNER IN ADVISORY ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.
SCHOOL PICTURE DAYS All underclassmen will be scheduled for their picture day on Wednesday, September 17, 2011. Seniors are reminded that all yearbook pictures are due to Mrs. Ottilege no later than October 31.
SOUTH KINGSTOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT SCHOOL INFORMATION FORM – Enclosed with this mailing is a South Kingstown School District School Information Form. Please review all the information and provide all requested information and make changes as necessary. The form also needs to be signed and dated by the parent/guardian completing the form. Students should return the form to their Advisor during the first week of school. All students must return this form with the requested information and any updates to the listed information on file with the South Kingstown School District.
SAT REGISTRATION Students interested in sitting for the October 1, 2011 SAT Reasoning Test or any SAT Subject test on that test date must have their registration packet postmarked or register on-line by September 9, 2011. On-line registration is now available! Applications and practice materials are available in the guidance office. Students eligible for extended time or other accommodations based on an existing 504 plan or an IEP must also complete the Services for Students with Disabilities Student Eligibility process if it was not completed during the 2010-2011 school year. Please speak with your school counselor or member of the special education staff if you have any questions regarding eligibility for extended time or other
accommodations. Keep in mind that registration deadlines must be met in order to receive the accommodations for the chosen test date. Information on student accommodations for College Board testing are available at www.collegeboard.com/ssd/student. The online application process must be completed with a special education teacher or the administrator responsible for 504’s.
SAT PREP CLASSES AND ONLINE SUPPORT – SKHS students can utilize a number of options to prepare for the SAT. A listing of opportunities is available in the guidance office and on the Guidance Department area of the SKHS website. Revolution Prep will again be offering a SAT prep class to prepare for the October 1st SAT. The class begins on Saturday, August 20th from
9am – 1pm, with evening classes beginning on Tuesday, August 23rd from 6-9pm. Information and registration is available at www.revolutionprep.com or 1-877-REV-PREP. Need-based scholarships are available for qualified students to assist in defraying the $499 cost of the class. Students and parents/guardians should speak to their school counselor for information. The next class, in preparation for the November 5th SAT begins on Saturday, September 17th.
PSAT FOR 10th and 11TH GRADERS The PSAT is scheduled for Saturday, October 15 for interested sophomores and juniors. Practice test materials will be provided to 10th and 11th grade students at the time of registration and payment of the testing fee. Students must register and pay the testing fee of $20 to register and receive the Official Student Guide to the PSAT, which includes a full length practice test. Payment for the PSAT will be accepted starting on Tuesday, September 6, 2011.
2011-2012 STATE ASSESSMENTS Dates for the 2011-2012 Rhode Island State Assessments have been set and are listed in the calendar section of this newsletter. Students and their families are reminded that all students who are members of the junior class
(11th graders) are to complete the state assessments during the assigned testing periods. Each assessment will require students to complete all portions and attend all days of testing in order to obtain an accurate assessment of a student’s skills and abilities. As
a reminder, state assessment scores are now to be listed on a student’s transcript and a partially proficient score of “2”is required to receive a South Kingstown High School diploma in June 2012.

Getting ready for the SAT or ACT? To study vocabulary and mathematics, learn testing strategies and take practice exams, create an account at this site.
My College QuickStart is a free personalized tool for students to prepare for life beyond high school. Students sign in at www.collegeboard.com/quickstart. Students will need their official paper PSAT/NMSQT Score Report, which contains their access code, as well as a collegeboard.com student account. Based on your PSAT performance, view suggestions for improving your skills and answer the related SAT Practice questions.

On-line classes: On-line SAT Preparation (Part 1) – Prepare for the critical reading and writing sections of the SAT and the reading, English and science sections of the ACT
On-line SAT Preparation (Part 2) – Prepare for the mathematics sections of both the SAT and ACT, including the Student Produced Response questions on the SAT.
Each on-line class: $94 tuition and $5 registration fee - $99 for each part

Revolution Prep will offer classes to prepare for the March 10 and May 5, 2012 SAT test dates.

4. SAT Preparation classes at Rocky Hill School in East Greenwich www.tukeysat.com
Paul Tukey, Director of College Counseling @ Rocky Hill School will offer an SAT preparation program designed to prepare high school juniors for the May 5, 2012 SAT.
- $450 tuition, with a non-refundable deposit of $200 to secure a place in the class
- 44 hour course, consisting of 8 sessions held on consecutive Sundays starting on March 11 – April 29, 2012
- Two sessions available each Sunday: 8:00am – 1:30pm and 2:00pm – 7:30pm
